  • Looks like I will building a conservatory

Since the last post my father is still determined to add a conservatory or an orangery to his house. He flirted for a while with adding a gazebo but has since returned to his original decision. Between him and my mother they have narrowed down to search, they have decided that they are after a lean to conservatory. Looking at the one that they have chosen I can see why the think it will look good on their house. I was worried that they would end up with something that although it looked good it did not suit the house that it was attached to.

My dad is excited about building a conservatory. Since my last post on the subject my father is still determined to add a conservatory or an orangery to his house. My dad is excited about building a conservatory, I think he see’s it as a father son bonding exercise. My mother is excited by the prospect, I think she has realised that she is getting an extra room in the house that she can use for any purpose she desires. Speaking to her I think she is going use it as a room where she relax in peace, allowing her possibly at the end of the day to find a tranquil spot in the house. Alternatively she is going to use it as a dining room for special occasions. I believe that she is working on the basis that it can be used for both purposes as one does not exclude the other.

I could have imagined them growing fruit in it but apparently a summerhouse would be better suited for this purpose. It is good to see them both excited about this. I am still a bit nervous about helping build the conservatory. I have spoken to people who have built one and they assure me that it is a straight forward process. I am not convinced by this but at least now I am willing to give it a go. Next week I have been invited to view some conservatories that have been recently built, I have been assured that this will help change my mind on the whole subject.

  • Building a conservatory / orangery / summerhouse

My father’s ambitious plan to build his won conservatory, orangery or summerhouse is back on. The whole of the country is struggling to survive with the snow and all my dad is thinking about is building something so that he can enjoy summer nights. I suppose when I think of it that way it does makes some sense.

He has started sending away for brochures and arranging meetings with sales people to discuss the in and outs of adding whatever structure it is he will decide to add. At the moment he seems to focusing on either one of these conservatories or a self build conservatory like this. Then if you ask him at a different time he likes this type of summerhouse or a one of these summerhouses.

I honestly thought at the start of all of this that he was joking about this, I figured he was doing to wind up my mother. The idea might even have started out as an attempt to wind her up. It might even have been an attempt to wind myself up. I realise now that he is being serious. He is definitely throwing himself into this particular project, he also seems to expect the same level of commitment from myself. This is the bit that really scares me. I definitely believe that he expects the two of us, with limited help, to build whatever one he chooses. I honestly don’t know how hard this is going to be. I would love to think that it would be fairly straight forward process, I realise though that it is very unlikely that it is going to be easy. I just hope that he waits until the weather is a bit better before we have to start working.

  • New Year

I have not been as active on here as much as I wanted to. I am determined, bit late to call it a new years resolution, to get this blog going again.

I do not know if I shoud set myself a target of a certain amounts of posts each week or just continue posting when I can remember to. I am not sure how other people do it. Well I am going to give it ago and see how I get on with it.

  • Building a Summerhouse in the winter

My father has just phoned me to ask if I had spare time to help build him a summerhouse or an orangery. I won’t lie and try to claim that I know what an orangery is, my first thought was that it was some kind of building associated with the orange order. Apparently it is like a conservatory.

Now, it is the middle of november, it is winter, it is cold here. Christmas is just round the corner, I will admit that I have had thoughts of a organising a holiday somewhere warm. But the last thing on my mind is building a summerhouse, even in the summer I think that the last thing I would be thinking of is building a summerhouse.

My dad is not young, he is in his 80’s, not an age that I would recommend starting a project like this. I am not sure why he wants to do it himself either. I would have thought for a project of this magnitude that he would have got someone in to do the work. Reluctantly I have agreed to get involved in his latest scheme. I am not sure what help I can be, I don’t have any experience of this sort of thin, I know nothing about summerhouses and orangeries. I have started looking at some sites on the web though. My dad seems to have made up his mind that he wants one from Amdega, and to be fair they do look good.

I am not sure when we are going to start building the summerhouse or orangery. What I am sure about is that it will involve a lot of sweat, tears, work, hopefully some fun but I know that we will argue like no one business.

  • Suffering for my art.

I am a football fan. To be more specific I support Hibs. It is not easy being a Hibs fan at the best of times. At the moment things are far from being the best of times.

Tonight Hibs got turned over by Clyde, no offense to Clyde but they are one step away from being part time fisherman / footballers that you see on the news.

At least when something like this happens at the weekend you can use head out with friends and use the magical properties associated with binge drinking to eliminate any traces of bad memories from your consciousness. Sadly tonight is a 'school night', if I turn up at work with a hangover again I will be in trouble.

  • New Irvine Welsh book

I've just managed to get hold of the new Irvine Welsh book Crime.

I had never read anything of his up until last year. Last summer I managed to get through all his published novels and collections of short stories.

I grew up in Leith, where most of his books are set, we follow the same football team, Hibs, we also seem to share a very similar life.

Reading his books often feels like reading my autobiography, it feels a bit weird at times.

Many of my friends wont read his books, they are not to happy with how he portrays where we grew up. He certainly divides opinion among folk in Edinburgh.

If you grew up or live in Leith or north Edinburgh lots of the characters in his book are recognisable. Then again Grand Theft Auto was created in the same part of the world and if you pay attention while playing the game you will notice lots of the characters are based on real life Edinburgh folk.

  • Amy Winehouse hits fan

I have just been reading a blog about Amy Winehouse hitting a fan at Glastonbury.

You have to hand it to Amy Winehouse, she is definitely different from your average 'pop star'.

Can you imagine McFly fighting with fans?

To many pop acts, like Avril Lavigne are manufactured and controlled by their music industry masters. Taking the example from the Amy Winehouse blog with football, to many of todays musicians, pop stars and footballers are to worried about their image to go out and have fun.

Footballers now are all athletes, well behaved and lets be honest pretty much personality free. There are no footballers these days that stand out like George Best, they simply don't have the tales to tell.

Apart from Amy Winehouse hitting the fan, the Massive Attack set looked fantastic. It would be good to see them tour again. I noticed in todays papers that one time Massive Attack collaborator Tricky has some new material being released, I am looking forward to this being released.

  • The second post

My second post has become like the Stones Roses second album.

To long in the making, the longer it goes on the harder it becomes to make. Will it live up to the hype, will it be as good as the first one? Are people even interested anymore? Will it still be contemprary?

Should I ding it and move to a new blog? Sign a deal with Blogger or Wordpress?

Oh the second post has been difficult. Not for creative reasons, there was not artistic arguements, fallouts or tantrums. I never needed to lock myself away in a studio to seek sanctuary from the pressure.

    Nope, none of that.

I just lost my password for the account.

    It is simple as that.

  • My first blog

    Hello World!

I have never blogged before, never even kept a diary.

I am not sure how long I will keep this up for.

I am not even sure what I will blog about.

I am not sure that anyone will ever find this blog.

I am not sure that even if people do find this blog that they will bother reading it.

I am not sure that I will go to the trouble of reading it.

I am not sure of much.
